The importance of a good nights sleep

Recently, thanks to one of my clients, I found out about a wonderful new radio station whose sole purpose is to help you get off to sleep.

A good night’s sleep is incredibly important for good mental and physical health, as important as healthy eating and exercising. The internet is full of great tips to help you sleep and academic discussion about the importance of sleep ... and the consequences of not getting enough good quality sleep.

I would like to share with you the story of John Watson and his brain child, Sleep Radio. John is from Te Aroha in New Zealand's Waikato district. He founded Sleep Radio almost two years ago after being diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety, which led to insomnia. “I was sick of lying awake at night just staring at the ceiling, I have got to do something about this” John said in an interview with Teresa Ramsey from Stuff.co.nz.

John broadcasts Sleep Radio from his home in Te Aroha to listeners all over the world. The radio station plays nothing but soft, ambient music, or 'downbeat music', 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. John says “we are the only radio station in the world who wants you to fall asleep while listening”.

John personally listens to every track before broadcasting it to make sure there are no vocals, beat or loud noises. “It can be very tiring work” John says. He is frequently approached by ambient music artists from all over the world seeking to air their music on the radio station. “Finding the right kind of soothing music has not been a problem”, he said.

John's wife Deborah has researched and written an A to Z of excellent tips to help improve your sleep. They can be found on the Sleep Radio website at http://www.sleepradio.co.nz/. John also posts monthly podcasts of interviews with sleep specialists on the website.
